Mt. Elgon is one of the jewels of East Africa with the largest caldera in the world. An extinct shield volcano with, It has long served as a spiritual icon for the surrounding villages, its rich volcanic soil supporting thousands of locals with food and coffee crops.
We set off in January 2019 on a supported expedition to reach the peak of the volcanic range, Wagagai, sitting at 4321m above sea-level overlooking Uganda to the west and Kenya to the east. Our team consisted of a Finn, Swede, Dane, South African, Venezuelan and two local Ugandan guards.
We managed to scale the mountain in only 3 days.
